Receive Twitter reminders for each broadcast

Posted June 30, 2012 by Floydian Slip

“Floydian Slip” has been tweeting from the dark side of the moon for some time now. It’s all part of our strategy to build an online community of Floyd fans going back to the early-’90s when we were @AOL and posting songlists to Usenet. (Forget Vera Lynn. Does anybody here remember FloydShow@aol.com?)

Recently we’ve started tweeting notifications of each “Floydian Slip” broadcast the moment each show starts to air.

As our network’s grown to 34 stations airing the show 44 times every week, your options for when and how to listen have grown, too.

Follow us on Twitter @floydianslip to receive broadcast notices, as well as all the latest Floyd news.

Keep talking …

Sirius XM creates The Pink Floyd Channel

Posted May 21, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Satellite radio company Sirius XM will debut The Pink Floyd Channel on May 25.

The 24/7 service devoted to the band will begin on Deep Tracks (Channel 27) May 25 through 28, and then move to Sirius Channel 142/XM Channel 43 from May 29 through July 9.

Starting June 29, the service will also be available online and through the company’s mobile app for “an extended period,” according to a news release.

The channel, hosted and curated by Jim Ladd, will feature music from Floyd as well as the band’s members.

Sirius XM has created temporary channels devoted to other artists in the past, such as Paul McCartney, The Who, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and many others.

It appears uncertain whether The Pink Floyd Channel will become a permanent offering, such as the company’s channels devoted to Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley and Jimmy Buffet.

Come on in, Sirius XM … the water’s fine.

Any colour you like: Dark Side as Pantone

Posted April 28, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Maybe it’s just the graphic design geek in yours truly, but a collection of mosaic reproductions of famous album art recently caught our eye — particularly a remake of Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” (1973).

David Marsh selects Pantone color swatches from Photoshop to construct his art.

You can see his full portfolio online.

View “Floydian Slip” airtimes by time zone

Posted February 12, 2012 by Floydian Slip

We’ve added a new feature to the “Floydian Slip” Web site that allows you to view all show airtimes in the time zone of your choosing.

The widget, found on our site’s home page and our radio show page, defaults to Eastern time (EST) on your first visit, but will convert all airtimes for our 30 affiliate stations to the time zone of your choice when you select from the dropdown menu.

The site will remember your time zone choice on future visits.

We made the change due to the increasing complexity of keeping track of a growing number of airtimes in a variety of time zones as our Random Precision Radio Network grows.

We hope the new feature will make finding a time to listen to “Floydian Slip” in your part of the world easier.

Siri knows where to find the Floyd

Posted January 31, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Give a listen to a station ID we recently voiced for “Floydian Slip” affiliate Zenith Classic Rock.

We’re wondering how those Irish lads got Siri to pronounce “Zenith” their way …

Adele bests Pink Floyd, Beatles with #1 album

Posted January 21, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Adele‘s “21” album has now remained at the #1 position on the Billboard 200 chart for 16 weeks.

The move puts the British soul singer ahead of Pink Floyd and The Beatles who both had albums spend 15 weeks at #1: “The Wall” (1979) and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” (1967), respectively.

Adele now holds the record for longest-running U.S. chart-topping album by a British artist.

You’ve won this round, Adele …

Official Pink Floyd Twitter account launched

Posted July 9, 2011 by Floydian Slip

EMI Records has launched a Twitter account for Pink Floyd, apparently part of the label’s “Why Pink Floyd?” reissue campaign.

Follow the account @whypinkfloyd.

The account first tweeted June 28. At this writing, it has 899 followers, but EMI’s strategy would appear to be unidirectional: The account follows no one.

Vote for “Floydian Slip”

Posted June 13, 2011 by Floydian Slip

Here’s your chance to put “Floydian Slip” and Pink Floyd on the charts of Burlington, Vermont’s weekly alternative newspaper “Seven Days.”

The paper’s accepting ballots now for its annual “Daysies Awards.” Voters can have their say in determining the best in a variety of categories.

The closest they’ve got to a “Best Radio Show” category is Question #63: “Best Local Radio DJ.” Though our show’s syndicated to 30 stations, Burlington is our home base. We’re heard in Burlington on WIZN 106.7 FM and WBKM.org. Host Craig Bailey lives in adjacent Winooski.

So hit the Web and vote your conscience.

Rules dictate you have to answer a minimum of 50 questions. While you’re at it, suggest a new category of “Best Radio Show” at the end of the survey.

Deadline to vote is 5 p.m. EDT Friday, June 24.

Funny side-note: Several years ago we managed to get Burlington’s daily Gannett paper to cry uncle just hours after making such a request to you crazy diamonds. The category was “Best Vermont Web Site,” and floydianslip.com won by a landslide.

“Seven Days” is using venerable survey site SurveyMonkey, so can certainly handle the traffic. Let ’em have it …

Pink Floyd tribute band lawsuit

Posted May 24, 2011 by Floydian Slip

If we told you members of a Pink Floyd cover band allegedly liked to unwind after gigs by smoking pot back at the hotel room, would you be surprised? What if we told you another band member had brought suit against them for doing the very same?

Singer Graham Heath, who has worked with San Diego-area tributes Pink Froyd and Pink Floyd Experience, is suing band-mate and guitarist Tom Quinn and band reps Annerin Productions and Jeff Parry Promotions on seven counts.

Legalize aside, Heath’s major beef is that his complaint about fellow band-mate’s proclivity to the herb resulted in his unlawful termination.

The suit runs deeper than that, with phrases like “breach of contract,” “defamation of character,” and “false light” popping up. But that first one is enough to harsh the mellow of any self-respecting axeman.

Read more at the San Diego Reader.

Let’s hope the guys can patch things up and make good at some charity event reunion 20 years down the road.
