Two more Pink Floyd reissues coming to vinyl

Posted October 10, 2017 by Floydian Slip

On Nov. 17, Pink Floyd Records will reissue on vinyl the albums “A Collection of Great Dance Songs” (1981) and “Delicate Sound of Thunder” (1988).

This will be the first time those albums have been available on LP for more than 20 years. They’ll be the band’s first “best of” and live albums to be remastered on vinyl.

Over the past two years, Floyd has released its entire studio collection as stereo remasters on heavyweight 180g vinyl. All have been mastered from original analogue studio tapes with original album artwork.

“A Collection of Great Dance Songs’” was certified double platinum by the RIAA in 2001. A compilation of previously released tracks, it also contains a complete re-recording of “Money” recorded almost entirely by David Gilmour alone.

“Delicate Sound Of Thunder” was recorded live over five nights in August 1988 at Nassau Coliseum, Long Island, N.Y. It went on to become the first rock album to be played in outer space.

Roger Waters album blocked in Italy

Posted June 21, 2017 by Floydian Slip

Sales of Roger Waters‘ new album “Is This the Life We Really Want” have been suspended in Italy over a claim of artwork plagiarism.

Italian artist Emilio Isgrò claims the redacted style of the artwork included with Waters’ album (top) infringes on his so-called “erasure technique” (bottom).

The album’s design is credited to Sean Evans, who also handled “creative direction” for the album; along with Danny Kamhaji and Dan Ichimoto.

Italian newspaper La Repubblica reports a Milan court has halted sales of the album, pending a hearing coming July 27.

New Roger Waters album tracklist; release delayed

Posted April 20, 2017 by Floydian Slip

The release date for “Is This the Life We Really Want?,” the new album from Roger Waters, has been delayed by two weeks. Originally scheduled for May 19, Columbia Records will now release it globally on Friday, June 2.

Pre-orders for the album begin tomorrow in three formats: double 180-gram vinyl LP in a gatefold jacket, four-panel soft pack CD, and digital.

A Columbia press release describes the album as “an unflinching commentary on the modern world and uncertain times” and “a natural successor to classic Pink Floyd albums such as ‘Animals’ and ‘The Wall.'”

It’s produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Beck, U2).

Tracklist for the album is as follows:

  1. When We Were Young
  2. Déjà Vu
  3. The Last Refugee
  4. Picture That
  5. Broken Bones
  6. Is This the Life We Really Want?
  7. Bird in a Gale
  8. The Most Beautiful Girl
  9. Smell the Roses
  10. Wait for Her
  11. Oceans Apart
  12. Part of Me Died

Lyrics for “Wait for Her” were written by Waters and inspired by an English translation by an unknown author of “Lesson from the Kama Sutra (Wait for Her)” by Mahmoud Darwish.

Musicians on “Is This the Life We Really Want?” are: Waters (vocals, acoustic, bass), Godrich (arrangement, sound collages, keyboards, guitar), Gus Seyffert (bass, guitar, keyboards), Jonathan Wilson (guitar, keyboards), Joey Waronker (drums), Roger Manning (keyboards), Lee Pardini (keyboards), and Lucius (vocals) with Jessica Wolfe and Holly Proctor.

Waters will launch his North American “Us + Them” tour in Kansas City, MO, on Friday, May 26. The tour runs through Oct. 28, finishing in Vancouver, BC.

See the Roger Waters website for complete and up-to-date concert dates.
