Full Live at Knebworth set coming April 30

Posted March 10, 2021 by Floydian Slip

Warner Music will release “Pink Floyd Live at Knebworth 1990” for the first time on CD, double vinyl, and digital platforms on April 30.

Only two Pink Floyd tracks from the 1990 Silver Clef Winners performance at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire, were included in the 1990 album “Knebworth: The Album.” Floyd’s entire set made it into “The Later Years: 1987–2019” boxset released in 2019.

Floyd topped the bill for that June 30, 1990, event. Other artists included Paul McCartney, Dire Straits, Genesis, Phil Collins, Robert Plant (with Jimmy Page), Cliff Richard, Eric Clapton and Tears For Fears.

Approximately 120,000 fans attended the event, which supported the Nordoff Robbins charity; and MTV broadcast the concert globally.

“There is something special about Knebworth. We all still have fond memories of playing there in the ’70s, and this show was no different,” says Floyd drummer Nick Mason.

“As a North London boy this was almost a home game, but with the added delight of being the re-assembly of the band after a fairly mega-tour that had lasted for well over a year.

“It was also an opportunity to get the wonderful Candy Dulfer to play,” he adds. “I had been a fan of hers for quite a while, and it was just a shame we didn’t have an opportunity to utilize her for more.

“We also had our dear friend Michael Kamen guesting. Michael had contributed so much to Pink Floyd over the previous 10 years, it’s great to have something of his playing on the recording.”

Also joining Floyd’s Mason, David Gilmour, and Richard Wright for the performance were Guy Pratt, Jon Carin, Tim Renwick, Gary Wallis, Durga McBroom, Sam Brown, Vicki Brown and Clare Torry.

Songlist

  1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts 1-5
  2. The Great Gig In The Sky
  3. Wish You Were Here
  4. Sorrow
  5. Money
  6. Comfortably Numb
  7. Run Like Hell

The album was produced by Chris Kimsey and Steve Smith; and recorded and engineered by Mike Fraser. It’s been remixed  by Andy Jackson with David Gilmour, assisted by Damon Iddins.

Warner will handle the album’s release within Europe; Sony Music will release it outside Europe.

Pre-order the 2-LP set for $49.98. Pre-order the CD for $15.98.

Sony has informed “Floydian Slip” it will not be able to provide giveaway copies of the release. “Unfortunately we have no physical give-aways or promotional items,” a Sony rep tells us. “The pandemic, understandably, has made things challenging.”

“Delicate Sound of Thunder” to be re-released

Posted September 24, 2020 by Floydian Slip

Sony Music will re-release Pink Floyd‘s “Delicate Sound of Thunder” on Nov. 20.

The Grammy award-nominated film and live album, a document of the band’s “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” tour of 1987-89, will be re-issued on Blu-ray, DVD, 3LPs, 2CDs and deluxe editions with remixed 5.1 Surround Sound.

In addition to the live album and full concert film included with The Later Years boxset last November, all editions of ’20 re-issue will include a 40-page photo booklet, tour poster and postcards. The 3-LP 180-gram vinyl set includes nine songs not included on the 1988 release of the album. And the 2-CD includes eight tracks more than the original release.

Filmed at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum in August 1988 and directed by Wayne Isham, the re-issued film is sourced from more than 100 cans of original 35mm negatives, restored and transferred to 4K. The film has been re-edited by Benny Trickett from the restored and upgraded footage under creative direction of Aubrey Powell/Hipgnosis.

The sound has been remixed from the original multitrack tapes by longtime Floyd engineer Andy Jackson with David Gilmour, assisted by Damon Iddins.

Sony will handle re-release of “Delicate Sound of Thunder” outside Europe, while Warner Music will manage the European release.

Cinema release still on-hold
On Aug. 20, Trafalgar Releasing announced the film would play theaters one night only, Oct. 15. The next day, the band’s Facebook page revealed that event had been postponed.

James Merchant, Trafalgar Head of Film and Music, confirmed for “Floydian Slip” today there are no updates on a rescheduled release date for that cinema event.

New David Gilmour song released as single

Posted July 3, 2020 by Floydian Slip

Legacy/Columbia today released David Gilmour‘s “Yes, I Have Ghosts” as a single.

The new track, written by Gilmour and his wife, Polly Samson, features their daughter, Romany Gilmour, on backing vocals and harp.

“I was working on this song just as we went into lockdown and had to cancel a session with backing singers,” Gilmour said in a statement.

“As it turned out, the solution was right here and I couldn’t be happier with the way Romany’s voice blends with mine and her beautiful harp playing has been another revelation,” he added.

The song was originally released last week as part of the audiobook of Samson’s novel “A Theatre for Dreamers,” and was inspired by one of the characters in the story.
