New song coming from David Gilmour

Posted June 12, 2020 by Floydian Slip

The upcoming audiobook of Polly Samson‘s “A Theatre for Dreamers” will include the song “Yes I have Ghosts,” a new single from husband David Gilmour.

Gilmour has been writing with Samson since Pink Floyd’s “The Division Bell” (1994). He provides original incidental music throughout the audiobook.

The single is inspired by a character in the book, set on the Greek island of Hydra, and was co-written by Samson.

“We didn’t set out to work together on the audiobook, but lockdown meant I had to narrate and I’m grateful to David Gilmour for stepping in to the producer’s chair,” says Samson “We wanted to explore the creative possibilities of the format and produce something new, refreshing and innovative.”

Publisher W.F. Howes Ltd. lists the release date of the audiobook as Sept. 1.

Uncut and Prog magazines have both published a date of June 25, though it’s unclear whether that’s the release date for the audiobook or the stand-alone single.

Lost David Gilmour track to receive Record Store Day release

Posted March 10, 2020 by Floydian Slip

A instrumental David Gilmour played on without credit for a 1995 film soundtrack will receive its first release on Record Store Day, April 18.

“Grand Central Station” from the film “Hackers” was originally credited to Deep Cover, but not included on any of the three soundtracks that’ve been released for the film.

Gilmour recorded his contribution during a visit to bassist and Floyd collaborator Guy Pratt during the time Pratt was working on the soundtrack with director Ian Softley.

The new double-LP will also include the previously unreleased “One Combination” by Pratt.

Pink Floyd announces Record Store Day release

Posted March 3, 2020 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd Records will release a limited edition, one-sided 45 of “Arnold Layne” for Record Store Day, Saturday, April 18.

The recording represents the last live performance by Floyd with David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright playing together at the Syd Barrett tribute “The Madcap’s Last Laugh” at London’s Barbican on May 10, 2007.

The trio was joined by Jon Carin on keyboards and vocals; and Andy Bell from Oasis on bass guitar.

Floyd creative director Aubrey Powell oversaw the sleeve, newly created by long-time Floyd collaborators, photographer Rupert Truman and designer Peter Curzon, both of StormStudios. New art extends to the B-side of the single, which features an etching of handcuffs echoing the sleeve design and song lyrics.

The single was mixed by Damon Iddins.

Pink Floyd Records has supported Record Store Day each year since the label’s launch in June 2016.
