David Gilmour guest appearance to be issued on compilation

Posted May 23, 2012 by Floydian Slip

A guest appearance Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour made in 1975 will be issued as part of a new compilation.

“When Your Life Is Your Own,” a recording Gilmour made with David Courtney, was first made available on CD when Courney’s 1975 “First Day” album was reissued as “First Day: The Complete Story” in spring 2010.

The new Courtney compilation, “The Show Must Go On,” will be made available June 11 in the U.K.; July 10 in the U.S.

Courtney’s first successes came as a songwriter for Leo Sayer and Adam Faith. As a producer, he’s done work with Roger Daltrey, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.

Mason, Jackson hint at more reissues to come

Posted February 8, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and long-time recording engineer for the band Andy Jackson have told Billboard more reissues might be on the way following this month’s boxset of “The Wall.”

“The idea was always to see whether people like these things or not. If they do, of course we could do more,” Mason says.

“There’s quite a bit of very, very early stuff, before they had a deal, with Syd (Barrett) in the band when they were still trying to be an R&B band,” says Jackson, who’s been a major player behind the boards of the entire “Why Pink Floyd?” remaster campaign.

“It’s not, like, early versions of songs that turned up on their albums or anything. It’s R&B classics, the same as everybody else was playing back them,” he adds. “There’s a lot of recordings that may be brilliant for a future project.”

Read Billboard’s story online.

“The Wall” will be released Feb. 28.

A couple weeks ago on “Floydian Slip” we played an early band demo of “Young Lust.”  Be listening for “The Doctor,” an early version of “Comfortably Numb,” on Show #828, airing on all 30 Random Precision Radio Network stations Feb. 16-22.

Posted January 28, 2012 by Floydian Slip

Roddy Bogawa‘s documentary about Pink Floyd sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson will have its East Coast premiere next month at New York Museum of the Modern Art (MoMA).

The feature-length film, “Taken by Storm,” will be featured as part of MoMA’s two-week-long “International Festival of Nonfiction Film and Media,” beginning Feb. 16.

“Taken by Storm” debuted in March 2011 at the South by Southwest (SxSW) festival.

“Hoping that this screening will give the film a big push along to its distribution life — more screenings, perhaps theatrical release, DVDs and streaming,” Bogawa says.
