Rick Wright’s sailboat for sale

Posted September 28, 2017 by Floydian Slip

A boat lies waiting for you … if you’ve got £450 to spend.

Evrika, the Nautor Swan 65 yacht that once belonged to Pink Floyd’s Rick Wright, is for sale.

Built in 1982, Wright bought the vessel in ’84 and owned it until his death in 2008. He lived on board the boat while he sailed the Greek islands during his hiatus from the Floyd following “The Wall” and before regrouping with David Gilmour and Nick Mason for “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” in ’87. It’s only had three owners in its lifetime.

While Evrika has been refurbished, it still retains many of its original features. The interior, at least, is entirely original.

Sale of the vessel is being handled by Berthon International Yacht Brokerage of Lymington, U.K. Contact Sue Grant at sue.grant@berthon.co.uk and see more details on the Berthon website.

Wright’s passion for sailing is referenced in “A Boat Lies Waiting,” a song on Gilmour’s album “Rattle That Lock.”

New Pink Floyd memoir published

Posted August 5, 2017 by Floydian Slip

(Update 8/6/17: The order page for the book is again accepting pre-orders, with an estimated ship date of Aug. 24.)

A just-published memoir from a late friend of Pink Floyd has already sold out. “In the Pink (Not a Hunting Memoir)” by Nick Sedgwick covers the time he spent with the band during 1974-75.

There’s no word yet whether the title will be reprinted.

In a promotional piece for the book, Roger Waters calls Sedgwick “one of my oldest friends,” and explains the author traveled with the band throughout England during its “Dark Side of the Moon” tour, as well as into America during ’75.

“When Nick finished the work in 1975 there was some resistance in the band to its publication,” Waters explains, “not surprising really as none of us comes out of it very well.”

Sedgwick died of brain cancer in August 2011.

Proceeds from the book go to Sedgwick’s family.

Visit the book’s page on the Roger Waters site

Winner: Their Mortal Remains

Posted July 17, 2017 by Floydian Slip

Congratulations to Garth Gregoire of Swampscott, Mass., our winner of a copy of “Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains.”

Here’s the answer to the trivia question: What inspired the black and white striped design of Pink Floyd’s “The Early Years” boxset? It was the band’s 1965 Bedford van they used in their early days.

Thanks to V&A Publishing and ABRAMS Books for providing the prize.

Kendall, Kylie Jenner discontinue Pink Floyd T-shirt

Posted June 30, 2017 by Floydian Slip

Kendall and Kylie Jenner have discontinued sale of a T-shirt that misappropriated imagery from Pink Floyd‘s “The Dark Side of the Moon” (1973).

The shirt was one of several designs that featured the women’s faces superimposed across iconic music imagery pinched from Floyd, The Doors, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne. They sold for $125.

The Jenners added the designs to their online shop Wednesday and removed them Thursday following immediate and harsh criticism.

Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, tweeted, “Girls, you haven’t earned the right to put your face with musical icons. Stick to what you know … lip gloss.”

“It’s ironic, at least, and criminal, at worst, both morally, ethically and artistically,” Doors representative Jeff Jampol told Rolling Stone. “They’re obviously attention-seeking missiles who crave celebrity and being well-known but don’t actually do anything.

“It’s the polar opposite of the artists that they’re trampling all over,” he added. “It’s just spitting in the face and on top of art and message and soul and legacy.”

Notorious B.I.G.’s mother, Voletta Wallace, called the shirt featuring her son “disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst.”

On matching tweets the Jenner’s posted Thursday, the pair said, “These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists.

“We are huge fans of their music and it was not our intention to disrespect these cultural icons in anyway [sic].

“The tee shirts have been pulled from retail and all images have been removed. We will use this as an opportunity to learn from these mistakes and again, we are very sorry.”
