“Roger Waters The Wall” film showing this fall

Posted April 18, 2015 by Floydian Slip

Picturehouse Entertainment and Fathom Events have acquired international and U.S. rights, respectively, to the feature-length film “Roger Waters The Wall.”

Written and directed by Roger Waters and Sean Evans, the film will show worldwide at 7:30 p.m. local time Tuesday, Sept. 29.

It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. A concert film of Waters’ tour of the classic Pink Floyd album “The Wall,” it’s also a road movie of Waters’ reckoning with the past and an anti-war film.

“We were a big family on the road, 189 of us, give or take the odd Snoozy Walrus. We were happy by and large and I am really happy to welcome everyone at Fathom and Picturehouse aboard, I know, I know, mixing metaphors,” Waters says in a somewhat rambling statement.

“Where was I? Oh yeah, with your help, this coming 29th September will be the perfect way to remember, not just our loved ones, but the other guys loved ones, fallen, living, and as yet unborn,” he adds.

More information and tickets will be available this summer at www.rogerwatersthewall.com.

David Gilmour guests at final Earl’s Court concert

Posted December 14, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour made a surprise guest appearance with Bombay Bicycle Club last night at the final concert to be held at London’s Earl’s Court.

The venue is scheduled for demolition.

Gilmour joined the band for two songs: He played lap steel guitar for the group’s “Rinse Me Down,” and then played acoustic guitar and sang Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.”

Gilmour had given Bombay Bicycle Club’s Jamie MacColl his first guitar when he was a child.

Earl’s Court will now be demolished to make way for a 77-acre redevelopment project. The project will include areas of Kensington, Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham, and is expected to take 20 years to complete.

Pink Floyd first played Earl’s Court in May 1973, the first year rock bands started frequenting the venue.

Roger Waters falls; knocked unconscious

Posted October 29, 2014 by Floydian Slip

The NY Post reports Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters attended the Oct. 23 Long Island Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony with a black eye and stitches.

Though he joked he got into a fight with a bottle of tequila the night before — “and the bottle won” — apparently he actually fell in his bathroom, hit his head, and was knocked unconscious.

The paper says Waters was at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia emergency room until 5 a.m. the day of the event.

Milan preview of Pink Floyd exhibition canceled

Posted October 13, 2014 by Floydian Slip

The Milan preview of “Their Mortal Remains,” a huge exhibition devoted to Pink Floyd, has been canceled. Work is underway to find a new venue at which to launch the exhibition.

Evolve Devolve, the Italian promoter of the event, made the announcement today.

In a press release, the company states, “the necessary conditions have not occurred in order to make it happen within the time frame available at the Fabbrica del Vapore. These conditions have nothing to do with Milan’s Municipality.”

The event was to begin in Milan before touring to other locations. It will now launch at an as-yet undetermined location and date.

Ticket holders for the Milan preview should contact their points of purchase to arrange refunds.

“Roger Waters: The Wall” film to premiere in September

Posted August 20, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Roger Waters: The Wall,” a concert documentary focused on the Pink Floyd co-founder’s recent world tour, will premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

“This immersive experience of Waters’s ‘The Wall Live’ tour, shot in three cities across two continents, is a rib-rattling, sonically stupendous piece of filmmaking,” according to TIFF director and CEO Piers Handling.

Clocking in at 2 hours 13 minutes, the film premieres Saturday, Sept. 6, with additional shows Sept. 7 and 14.

Waters shares directing credit with Sean Evans of production company Deadskinboy, who helped stage the tour. Longtime Waters manager Mark Fenwick is the film’s executive producer.

Waters played 219 shows on his “Wall” tour between 2010 and 2013, grossing $458 million.

No news yet on plans for a commercial release.

Pink Floyd Milan exhibit postponed

Posted August 11, 2014 by Floydian Slip

“Their Mortal Remains,” the massive Pink Floyd exhibit scheduled to open Sept. 19 in Milan, Italy, has been postponed.

Evolve Devolve, the Italian promoter of the event, issued a statement today saying the complexity of the installation made it impossible for the company to meet the timeline.

The company has temporarily suspended ticket sales for the 3-month event. Tickets already purchased will remain valid and may be used once new dates are announced, or can be refunded at point of sale.

The exhibit will include 300 items flown in from all over the world, occupying approximately 27,000 square feet.

Nick Mason to host charity event at his home

Posted April 17, 2014 by Floydian Slip

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and his wife, Annette, will host a charity auction at their Corsham, Wiltshire, home June 21 and 22.

The event will benefit Springboard Opportunity Group in Chippenham and the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust.

“We wanted to support two different charities who impact on the lives of folk locally,” Nick says. “We thought about one for the elderly and one for the young.”

He’ll bake a cake to be auctioned.

“Nick is an excellent cook and often creates wonderful diner parties for our friends,” Annette says. “When his daughters and sons are home, he still makes a special biscuit with a secret recipe which I know includes Mars Bars.”

The couple’s home was once owned by the Duchess of Cornwall (pictured with the Masons at last year’s event).
