Omega Auctions are selling today the purple and orange floorboards featured on the cover of Pink Floyd co-founder Syd Barrett‘s 1970 album The Madcap Laughs.

The Madcap Laughs (Syd Barrett) (1970)Designer Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and photographer Mick Rock shot Barrett crouched on the floor of his London flat for the cover of his The Madcap Laughs album. Prior to the shoot, Barrett painted the floorboards alternating colors of purple and orange.

Today’s seller purchased the flat and removed the boards during renovations. There are approximately 70 planks. Most are approximately 2.7 meters long — just less than 9 feet.

The auction’s webpage offers a number of photos of the flat.

Addendum: The auction ended today with a hammer price of £28,500 ($36,101).
