New Roger Waters album tracklist; release delayed

Posted April 20, 2017 by Floydian Slip

The release date for “Is This the Life We Really Want?,” the new album from Roger Waters, has been delayed by two weeks. Originally scheduled for May 19, Columbia Records will now release it globally on Friday, June 2.

Pre-orders for the album begin tomorrow in three formats: double 180-gram vinyl LP in a gatefold jacket, four-panel soft pack CD, and digital.

A Columbia press release describes the album as “an unflinching commentary on the modern world and uncertain times” and “a natural successor to classic Pink Floyd albums such as ‘Animals’ and ‘The Wall.'”

It’s produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Beck, U2).

Tracklist for the album is as follows:

  1. When We Were Young
  2. Déjà Vu
  3. The Last Refugee
  4. Picture That
  5. Broken Bones
  6. Is This the Life We Really Want?
  7. Bird in a Gale
  8. The Most Beautiful Girl
  9. Smell the Roses
  10. Wait for Her
  11. Oceans Apart
  12. Part of Me Died

Lyrics for “Wait for Her” were written by Waters and inspired by an English translation by an unknown author of “Lesson from the Kama Sutra (Wait for Her)” by Mahmoud Darwish.

Musicians on “Is This the Life We Really Want?” are: Waters (vocals, acoustic, bass), Godrich (arrangement, sound collages, keyboards, guitar), Gus Seyffert (bass, guitar, keyboards), Jonathan Wilson (guitar, keyboards), Joey Waronker (drums), Roger Manning (keyboards), Lee Pardini (keyboards), and Lucius (vocals) with Jessica Wolfe and Holly Proctor.

Waters will launch his North American “Us + Them” tour in Kansas City, MO, on Friday, May 26. The tour runs through Oct. 28, finishing in Vancouver, BC.

  2. Jared Pendak says:

Well, it’s only been 25 years since Waters’ last proper solo album — what’s another two weeks?!

  3. Steve says:

June 5th still not released! I bought the only track available on iTunes “Smell the Roses” and its good but it’s very similar to Sheep musically and even has dogs barking. I’ll see the tour in Miami but looks like Roger is waiting to release the album again

  4. Release date is June 2.
